Introduction of New Zealand Light Volleyball General Association
简介 Introduction
Light volleyball is a mass-participation volleyball activity that originated in China. Combining exercise, recreation, and entertainment, it has become a highly popular sport, especially among middle-aged and older non-professional players.
The New Zealand Light Volleyball General Association (NZLVGA) is the pioneer in introducing and promoting organized light volleyball activities in New Zealand.
Established in 2020, the association operates under the umbrella of the New Zealand Chinese Women Association Foundation. Over the past four years, it has made significant contributions to the growth and development of light volleyball locally. Today, the association has over 400 active members and more than 20 self-organized teams. Training bases are located in Central, and West Auckland, as well as on the North Shore, with regular training sessions held every Wednesday and Saturday.
NZLVGA is supported by professional light volleyball coaches and physical trainers, who provide members with technical guidance and training tailored to their needs.
The association actively organizes various tournaments, enhancing the sport’s entertainment value, boosting player participation, and strengthening the association’s cohesion.
At the end of each month, ranked tournaments are held for members. These events are sponsored, with prizes provided by naming sponsors, and are fully organized by the association — offering members regular opportunities to hone their skills through friendly competition.
NZLVGA also hosts the annual Association Cup Open Tournament, one of the largest light volleyball competitions in New Zealand, attracting teams from various clubs across the country.
Another highlight is the Starlight Cup International Championship; a prominent event aimed at fostering international sports exchange. The 2024 edition not only featured competitions in Auckland but also expanded to include a Sydney Division, with plans to establish additional international Starlight Cup venues in cities around the world in the near future.
In 2024, the association organized a team of Māori players to visit China and participate in the “China Light Volleyball Open” held in Changtai, Fujian Province, under the auspices of the General Administration of Sport of China. The experience was enriching and received overwhelmingly positive feedback.
The association’s motto — “Happiness, Health, Unity, and Progress” — defines both our spirit and our direction for the future.
Our mission is to “promote multicultural sports exchange in New Zealand and strengthen the integration of all ethnic communities.”
To that end, we are committed to continuing our outreach, encouraging light volleyball enthusiasts from all backgrounds to join us, enabling more people to benefit from this sport, and striving to further develop light volleyball across New Zealand.
